A brand film is a very strong and effective way to tell your audience who you are and why you exist as a brand. We believe in telling a brand story starting from the WHY; when people can identify with where you come from and what you stand for, they are also more willing to dive into all the details of your product or service.

The 6 steps towards a super inspiring brand storytelling video

A brand film is a very strong and effective way to tell your audience who you are and why you exist as a brand. We believe in telling a brand story starting from the WHY; when people can identify with where you come from and what you stand for, they are also more willing to dive into all the details of your product or service.

But how do you create a strong concept for a brand storytelling video? Below you will find the 6 steps we go through to arrive at a very strong creative concept (you’ll have to learn Dutch…) But don’t worry, below that you can find a more detailed description in English.

1. CREATIVE BRIEF

You want to convey something to your audience, make them feel something. You want to make them feel the very core of your brand, or of your campaign… by inspiring them, by evoking emotion and by encouraging them to think deeply about a theme or topic… making them part of your journey. To create a starting point for the customer journey, so that over time people always know where it started, where it came from. A strong foundation that puts all your other brand communication in the right perspective and makes it more impactful. This is also where our journey together begins, yours and ours. You brief us by providing a motive, objective, broad guidelines and provide us with all relevant information available. And then, we sink our teeth into it…

2. RESEARCH

We are driven by creativity, but see knowledge of the facts as an indispensable basis for a strong concept. We read, delve into your material and filter information. We go through this with each other, share our findings and summarize them in concise conclusions. Well prepared we arrive at your doorstep …

3. BRAINSTORM

We love co-creation and know from experience that when this is done in the right structure, we achieve the best end result. That is why we are going to work with you. The goals of this brainstorm are:

The project’s WHY
Together we focus on the motive and objective of the project as clearly as we can. We must be able to test all our creative choices against this during the project.

The mindmap
We are going to make a large mind map around a few main themes, without thinking of any real world limitations, but by generating as many associations as possible. All armed with a marker, we add every word or subject that comes up. Then we will filter and there will be a collection of words / themes that we think best fit the main topic.

The moodboard
What we just did with words for the mind map, we will also do with images for the mood board. We all individually look for visual inspiration in the form of images. We all add these to a shared Pinterest board. Here too we will filter and what remains is a selection of visual themes that, together with the mind map, provide enough creative fuel for the next phase …

4. IDEAS

After our joint brainstorming session, we will develop the first ideas with our team. We do this by coming up with two or three concise concepts and writing them out in a so-called synopsis. We support these ideas with existing reference videos that have similarities with a concept in terms of content or style.

5. CO-CREATION

In our second co-creation session we will take some major steps. We present our brief concepts to you, and we listen to your response and feedback. Together we choose one of the concepts. What follows is a brainstorm based on the chosen concept. The first concrete ideas in terms of interpretation are shared and we map out practical matters, such as available film locations and other facilitary options. Together we outline the contours for the final concept.

6. CONCEPTING

Time for us to go to work! It is now up to us to convert the concept developed together with you into a fully ready-to-use concept; so complete that production can be started immediately afterwards. The “final concept” that we present to you consists of:

  • A fully developed synopsis, backstory and script
  • A visual board (foam board) on which the cinematographic style is presented
  • An illustrated storyboard (foam board) on which the storyline is visualized
  • A budget for the entire production of the storytelling video
